Finding Your Keepers!
PLEASE NOTE: We do not offer sponsorship on any of our roles & therefore cannot accept any applications that require this.
Our friendly, positive client (R) is looking for a Support Worker (Day and sleeping night) to join his established care team. He would love someone who shares his great sense of humour, love of the theatre and days out, and understanding of the Gujarati and Hindi language (a bonus but not essential).
The Role:
R is a 41-year-old man who lives at home with his close-knit family. He excels in the company of friendly, positive people who will help him live life to his fullest potential.
Our client cerebral palsy. As a result, he is a full-time wheelchair user and is cortically blind and non-verbal. He requires support with all areas of daily living including personal care, meal preparation, feeding, and administration of medication.
R has a hoist in his home as well as his own hydrotherapy pool that he likes to access on a regular basis. You would be expected to enter the water to participate in helping out at therapy sessions, alongside another team member. The water in the pool is quite shallow so you do not have to be able to swim, but you must be confident in the water.
You will be working with another Support Worker during day hours and family will be available to assist at night. The full team comprises of a Team Leader and six Support Workers.
Full training in all aspects of our client’s care will be given and you will be supported by his Team Leader and Case Manager.
About You:
At least one years’ experience working with similar complex care needs is preferable, however we will also consider transferable experience. Enthusiasm, patience and a willingness to learn is essential.
You must be a team player who is willing to train and learn about our client’s particular needs.
A driver with a full UK licence who is able to drive our client’s automatic Caddi Maxi is preferred. We would however also consider applicants who cannot drive but live within a travelling distance of one hour to HA5.
Our client’s sister has a small dog who visits the home regularly so you must be comfortable around animals.
You will be a cheerful person who is flexible, reliable, calm and courteous. A positive and empathetic attitude with a passion for providing excellent care is essential.
Pay:
There will be a probationary period of 6 months. During this period you will carry out 3 day shifts a week and then move on to 3 days and one night including some weekend hours. This is whilst you learn and understand our client’s needs fully and become confident in undertaking night shifts.
This is a salaried role of £33,000 pa. The annual salary is worked out for the first 12 months of employment and includes the probation period rate and increase in paid rate when probation is passed. It includes the probationary shift pattern and one bank holiday worked per year.
Hours/Shifts:
Days worked are flexible and mutually agreed between Support Worker and Team Leader as a collaborative process. The rota is prepared six weeks in advance.
Day shifts are 13 hours, 08:00 to 21:00. Night shifts are 11 hours 21:00 pm to 08:00 with a portion of the night being a sleeping night when our client is asleep.
Additional cover could be required when the family is on holiday.
