Finding Your Keepers!
If you are as passionate about caring as you are about gardening and pets, along with enjoying shopping and having a coffee and a slice of cake then you may be the ideal Carer for our fun-loving and humorous client who is looking for a Support Worker to provide companionship, motivation and structure to her daily routine. If you think you would be a good fit, get in touch, interviews are being booked shortly.
The Role:
Our client is a 35-year-old lady who has an Acquired Brain Injury and is looking for someone to provide support to her in her own home. She has a supportive family living locally with whom she enjoys spending time. She can find it difficult to meet new people initially but once she feels comfortable her great sense of humour and fun comes to light.
L is an animal lover who adores her two cats, two guinea pigs and taking care of her outdoor Koi pond. She enjoys gardening and is very proud of her garden and home. L enjoys dancing at the local learning disability club discos a couple of times a month.
L has impairments in all areas of cognitive functioning, left sided weakness and epilepsy which is managed with medication and a vagus nerve stimulator (VNS). She requires 24-hour support with sleep-in night care.
Our client is verbal but requires information to be presented to her simply. She can read at single, simple word level and relies on emoticons/pictures. She is independently mobile but prefers to have light-touch support when walking outdoors.
L can be verbally challenging or may simply withdraw and consistent and balanced support must be implemented so that she retains a sense of control.
You will carry out (and facilitate L to carry out) tasks such as shopping, cooking, cleaning and washing and provide occasional person care as well as prompting.
Full training in all aspects of our client’s support will be given and you will be supported by her Team Leader and Case Manager to work towards her rehabilitation goals.
About You:
You will ideally have experience supporting someone with an Acquired Brain Injury and/or previously worked in a Support Worker role with someone with complex needs.
You will have a patient, calm and empathic personality and will be an animal lover willing to assist in pet care.
You will provide a supportive approach to our client by following her Care plan and helping her achieve her rehabilitation goals.
You will be organised, positive and reliable and able to build a rapport whilst providing motivation and structure to our client’s day, possibly introducing her to some new interests. You will be able to follow guidance provided as well as use your own initiative in everyday situations.
You will be a driver who is happy to take our client out on trips in her automatic vehicle.
Pay:
£310.40 per 24-hour shift (weekdays)
£338.40 per 24-hour shift (weekends)
Weekdays £14 per hour
Weekends £16 per hour
Bank holidays – double time
Sleeping hours – £11.44 per hour
Hours / Shifts
You will work 7 x 24-hour shifts (weekdays and weekends) a month on a rota basis. The day shift will commence at 09:00 until 23:00, usually with a 2 hour break in the afternoon, followed by a sleeping shift from 23:00 until 09:00 the next morning.
